Alex Iwobi is backing Everton teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a maiden call-up to England's senior team following the striker's impressive start to the 2020-2021 season.
With an impressive 5 goals in his first three starts, Calvert-Lewin is topping the Premier League scoring chart, level with Leicester City's number 9 Jamie Vardy who has retired from international football.
England manager Gareth Southgate is expected to announce his roster later this week ahead of matches against Wales, Belgium and Denmark in October.
"I think Dominic can be getting in the England squad very soon, because five goals in the first three Premier League games is very impressive,"said Iwobi to Everton's official website.
"If we’re going on form, I feel he should be competing for a spot there.
"Strikers get recognised for goals but he is also able to hold off big defenders. He wins a lot of aerial battles."
The Super Eagles playmaker added : "We’re happy for him and hopefully he continues this way for the rest of the season. We’re going to do our best to get him as many goals as we can.
"If he gets the call-up, he’ll want to get that feeling [of playing for England] as much as he can. It will do him the world of good."
Calvert-Lewin was a member of the Young Lions squad that won the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, a squad that contained six players of Nigerian descent in Fikayo Tomori, Josh Onomah, Dominic Solanke, Ademola Lookman, Sheyi Ojo and Ovie Ejaria.
