Bayern Munich right-back Josip Stanisic has reflected on the memorable UEFA Europa League final in May 2024, when Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3‑0 in Dublin.
The Croatian, who played the first half of the match, acknowledged the impact of the former Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman on the outcome.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference before Bayern's Champions League clash against Atalanta, Stanisic said, as quoted by Gazzetta, “It still stings me a little thinking about the defeat.”
He recalled the match vividly, highlighting Lookman’s decisive influence. “Lookman was exceptional, and obviously I also contributed by giving him too much space. I don’t want to play like that tomorrow,” he added, referencing his own defensive lapse during the historic game.
Lookman inspired Atalanta to their first European trophy in the club’s history with a sensational hat‑trick in the final.
His clinical finishing and relentless energy propelled the Italian side to a commanding 3‑0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, ending the German team’s 51‑match unbeaten run.
The Super Eagles forward recently finalized a transfer to Atlético Madrid during the winter window and is set to face Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture on Tuesday.
