Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has praised Maurizio Sarri for helping him navigate a challenging campaign at Lazio, insisting the Italian coach continues to play a key role in his development.

The Nigeria international spoke to the media ahead of Lazio’s upcoming fixture against US Sassuolo at the Stadio Olimpico.

Dele-Bashiru has endured a difficult campaign with the Serie A side, battling injuries and struggling to maintain consistent performances. 

However, the midfielder recently found a positive moment when he opened his goal account for the season during Lazio’s 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Sassuolo, Dele-Bashiru expressed appreciation for Sarri’s guidance, noting that the coach has consistently worked to help him improve.

"He's helping me a lot; there are always different areas a player can improve. I know the coach and his staff expect a lot from me," Dele-Bashiru was quoted as saying by Lazio Press.

"They know my qualities and try to bring them out in every training session, both technically and tactically."

The former Hatayspor midfielder admitted the season has been far from easy but believes the difficulties have contributed to his development.

"This year, despite the difficulties, has taught me a lot. I'm working only to have the opportunity to prove my worth."

Reflecting on his recent goal against Atalanta, the Nigerian described the moment as an encouraging turning point after months of setbacks.

"I was very happy with the goal. Unfortunately, I've had a difficult season so far: first I had several injuries, then I left for the Africa Cup of Nations. I've never found consistency, so I hope the performance and the goal against Atalanta can become a starting point for the end of this season," he added. 

Looking ahead, Dele-Bashiru emphasized that Lazio’s primary objective remains winning the Coppa Italia to ensure qualification for the UEFA European League.

"Our goal for the current season is to try to win the Coppa Italia. It would be important for the team and the fans; it would help us finish a difficult year on a high note, also securing qualification for next season's Europa League," Dele-Bashiru revealed. 

On a personal level, the midfielder said he is focused on maximizing every opportunity he gets in the remaining matches of the season.

"On a personal level, as I said, I just hope to play as many games as possible between now and the end, taking advantage of every opportunity I get. I want to grow every day and make the most of my time here at Lazio, helping the club," he said. 

The Super Eagles star will be hoping to maintain his recent momentum and deliver consistent performances to justify his place in the team.
