Victor Osimhen has reportedly expressed his desire to feature in Galatasaray’s upcoming Super Lig clash against Gençlerbirliği, despite ongoing medical concerns and a cautious approach from the club’s technical and medical staff ahead of a crucial fixture schedule.
According to information shared on Spor Gecesi Digital and relayed by journalist Gökhan Dinç, the Super Eagles forward has actively communicated his willingness to return to action, with Osimhen telling Galatasaray management and coaching staff, “I want to play in the Gençlerbirliği match,” as quoted by Habersarikirmizi.
The striker’s request highlights his eagerness to accelerate his comeback as the season enters a decisive phase.
However, Galatasaray’s technical and medical departments are maintaining a conservative stance due to the importance of upcoming fixtures, particularly the Fenerbahçe derby.
Dinç explained the club’s internal assessment, noting that the technical team and medical staff believe the risk is too high for a full return at this stage.
He stated that “the technical staff and doctors consider it extremely risky for Osimhen to start in the first eleven before the Fenerbahçe derby. Therefore, I don't expect Osimhen to start in the Gençlerbirliği match,” emphasizing the club’s focus on long-term fitness over immediate selection.
Despite the reluctance to start him, Osimhen is still expected to play a controlled role from the bench.
The plan is to ease him back into competitive action while managing his workload carefully to avoid setbacks.
According to Dinç, the club’s strategy remains clearly defined, as “Osimhen will play in the last 15-20 minutes of the Gençlerbirliği match, regardless of the score. The main preparation is to get Osimhen ready for the Fenerbahçe derby,” he said.
The former Napoli striker has remained an important figure for Galatasaray this season, contributing 12 goals in 19 Süper Lig appearances despite spells disrupted by fitness concerns.
His form and presence have been crucial in the club’s ongoing title challenge.
