Semi Ajayi was the hero for the Baggies, scoring with a towering header to restore parity in the 82nd minute.
Sadio Mane put the Reds in front in the 12th minute following a mistimed header by the Nigeria international, who was making his 14th start in the English top-flight.
West Brom midfielder Matt Phillips singled out Ajayi for praise shortly after the game, saying the central defender was excellent over the course of ninety minutes.
In quotes carried by BBC Sport, Phillips stated : "We had a game plan and we stuck to it. They are the champions for a reason and they play some great football but we stayed in the game after going one down and Semi [Ajayi] popped up with a great header.
"When you come to the big sides you have to work hard first and foremost and we got our rewards.

Ajayi, whose strike against Manchester City on December 15 was eventually awarded as an own goal, totaled 1,251 minutes on the pitch before becoming the second Nigerian to score his first goal in the Premier League this season after Torino loanee Ola Aina.
