'We didn't play well' - Osimhen admits after Galatasaray's 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has called on his Galatasaray teammates to remain focused on their title ambitions despite a heavy 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor in Saturday’s Turkish Super Lig clash.

The Nigerian striker admitted the team fell below expectations at the Canik 19 May Stadium but insisted the setback would not derail their push for the championship.

Osimhen, who made his move permanent from Napoli last summer, endured a mixed outing.

He made an immediate impact by setting up Yunus Akgün for the opening goal in the ninth minute, but the game later turned against the visitors.

A misplaced back pass from the forward contributed to the sending off of goalkeeper Günay Güvenç in the second half, further compounding Galatasaray’s struggles.

Speaking after the match, Osimhen urged his teammates not to dwell on the disappointing result, stressing the importance of maintaining focus ahead of their next fixture.

“Let’s not get stuck on this game. We have to keep going," Victor said via Fotomac.

"We need to win at home and declare the championship. Nothing has changed. The team will give everything. We’ll focus on the next match.”

The 27-year-old expressed confidence that Galatasaray would bounce back in their next home game and seal the title, noting that the team had anticipated a difficult contest against Samsunspor.

“We knew it wouldn’t be that easy to win the title here. We didn’t play well either. We will win our next match at home and officially secure the championship. We apologise to the fans. We will look ahead," he added.

Despite the setback, Osimhen has enjoyed an impressive campaign, registering 20 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
