Hamburg coach Dieter Hecking has criticized the performance of Xavier Amaechi during his side's 3-3 draw with Holstein Kiel in a 2. Bundesliga clash on Monday, June 8.
The former Arsenal winger was introduced off the bench with fourteen minutes left on the clock and was a shadow of himself.
Once rated in the same bracket as Bukayo Saka during their time at the Hale End Academy, Amaechi has struggled to live up to his billing since his move to Hamburg and he is still waiting to make his full debut after ten and a half months at the club.
"That was an unfortunate appearance," Hecking was quoted as saying by Mopo.
"We didn't expect that because he has presented himself very well over the past four weeks. Otherwise we would never have thought of replacing him at such an important moment.
"Then he just turned over. It was very unfortunate and a shame for him. "
The 19-year-old Amaechi was acquired by Hamburg for a fee of 2.5 million euros and is contracted to the 2. Bundesliga promotion hopefuls until June 2023.
