'Developed a fever' - Shpilevsky explains why Olusegun was dropped from starting XI v Spartak

FC Pari Nizhny Novgorod manager Aleksey Shpilevsky has clarified why Olakunle Olusegun was omitted from the starting lineup in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Spartak Moscow.

Olusegun, who joined the Russian side on loan from Krasnodar last summer, was named among the substitutes before being introduced in the second half.

The 24-year-old came on in the 63rd minute, replacing Uruguayan striker Adrián Balboa, who had given Pari NN the lead in the first half.

Speaking after the match, Shpilevsky has revealed that illness forced Nigerian forward Olakunle Olusegun out of the starting lineup.

"Thank you to the guys for their dedication; everyone gave it their all," Shpilevsky said to the club's official website. "It's been tough for us from the first day; something always happens."

"For example, Olusegun developed a fever before the match and was dropped from the starting lineup."

Olusegun has been a key figure for Pari NN since his arrival, playing a crucial role in their attacking setup as the club fights to avoid relegation.

The Nigerian international has registered five goals and two assists in 24 league appearances this season, underlining his importance to the team.

Despite the setback, the forward will be eager to quickly regain full fitness and continue his contributions as Pari NN push to secure their status in the Russian Premier League.
