Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed strong confidence in his ability to deliver against any opposition after playing a decisive role in Galatasaray’s victory over Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby
Osimhen, who had only just returned from a fractured arm injury, met a pass from Mario Lemina and clinically fired home the opener in the closing stages of the first half.
Speaking after the encounter, Osimhen praised the club’s medical staff for their role in his recovery, highlighting both the physical and psychological support he received during his time on the sidelines
"I thank Dr. Yener and the medical team. They did a great job," Osimhen said as reported by Fanatik. "A full return is impossible, but they prepared me very well psychologically."
Reflecting on the performance, the former Napoli striker emphasized the collective effort, noting that the team responded well after a disappointing cup outing against Gençlerbirliği.
"We fought well as a team. We disappointed our fans in the cup. I'm proud of my team's performance and happy about the victory," he added.
Osimhen was particularly emphatic about his role as a striker, insisting he remains confident of finding the net regardless of the opponent.
"As in every derby... You know, I can score against any team. That's my job. I do it well. The team deserves congratulations; we showed how prepared we are," Osimhen revealed.
The win further strengthens Galatasaray’s push for the Turkish Süper Lig title, as they now sit seven points clear of Fenerbahçe with just three matches remaining in the season.
Looking ahead, Osimhen maintained that the team remains fully focused on finishing the campaign strongly, starting with a difficult test against Samsunspor.
"We've taken another step closer to our championship goal. Samsunspor is a quality opponent. We will want to win every match from now on."
He described their upcoming opponents as a quality side and reiterated the squad’s determination to approach every remaining fixture with seriousness and the ambition to secure maximum points.
"To finish the season well, we will take every opponent seriously and want to win every match. Samsunspor is a tough opponent, but we will do our best," he noted.
The 27-year-old also addressed the controversy surrounding his use of protective equipment during the derby, dismissing concerns raised from the opposition camp.
Osimhen appeared unfazed by the criticism, stating that his focus remains on performing on the pitch and contributing to the team’s success rather than engaging with off-field distractions.
"Personally, I don't look at the internet much. When I arrived at the facility, someone from the club (regarding the objection about the protective equipment used) mentioned this."
"I don't understand these people. They're going to compete against the best team in the league, but they're complaining about this. I scored my goal, I did my job, I did my best."
He reaffirmed his deep affection for the club, pledging to continue giving his all whenever he steps onto the pitch as Galatasaray edge closer to another league triumph.
"That's what was important to me." I've said it many times, I won't tire of saying it, I'll say it again and again; I love Galatasaray with all my heart.
"As long as I have the opportunity, I will always protect this emblem. I say this from my heart. I will fight with everything I have for this emblem."
Since completing his permanent move in the summer, Osimhen has been instrumental for Galatasaray, registering 20 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
