Istanbul is red and yellow: Osimhen inspires Galatasaray to derby win over Fenerbahce

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen delivered another standout performance for Galatasaray, scoring in their commanding 3-0 victory over fierce rivals Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby on Sunday.

Osimhen opened the scoring late in the five minutes before the interval, much to the delight of the home supporters at Rams Park.

The Nigerian international displayed superb control and composure, expertly bringing down a layoff from Mario Lemina before calmly finishing past Ederson Santana de Moraes.

The Yellow-Reds doubled their advantage after the break, with Barış Alper Yılmaz converting a penalty into the bottom-right corner beyond Mert Günok.

Lucas Torreira then added a third goal to cap off a dominant display.

Osimhen’s goal took his tally to 13 league goals alongside four assists in 20 appearances this season, highlighting his influence since completing a permanent move to the club in the summer.

The Nigerian International, who completed a permanent move to Galatasaray lastsummer, had been in outstanding form prior to suffering a fractured arm injury.

Heading into the Istanbul derby, the Nigerian striker had either scored or assisted in each of his previous nine league appearances, registering an impressive return of nine goals and four assists during that run.

His influence has been evident, with Galatasaray struggling for consistency in his absence, recording just two wins, one draw, and one defeat in four league matches without him.

The victory sees Galatasaray move seven points clear of Fenerbahçe at the top of the table with only three matches remaining, placing them firmly in pole position to retain the Turkish Super Lig title.
