Nigeria's record appearance maker in UEFA club competitions on target for APOEL Nicosia

Peter Olayinka scored his third goal in APOEL Nicosia colours as the Cypriot giants were held to a 3-3 draw by Pafos at the GSP Stadium on Sunday.

UEFA recently revealed that Olayinka is Nigeria's ijoint-highest appearance maker in UEFA club competitions with 81 matches, a record he shares with Nwankwo Kanu.

Olayinka featured 32 times in the UEFA Europa League and its qualifying rounds, made 21 appearances in the UEFA Conference League including qualifiers, and played 28 matches in the UEFA Champions League and its preliminary stages.

In one of the most exciting matches of the 2025-2026 season, an early brace from Stefan Drazic handed APOEL Nicosia a two-goal lead within nine minutes, before Nikolas Ioannou's header in the 17th minute reduced the deficit.

In the second half, Peter Olayinka restored APOEL Nicosia's two-goal advantage in the 74th minute, before Derrick Luckassen struck twice with headed goals in injury time to salvage a point for Pafos.

Prior to the visit of Pafos, the Nigeria international had endured a seven-game goal drought in the Cypriot First Division, although he had earlier scored in the defeat to Apollon Limassol in the Kypello Kyprou semifinal on April 22.

Olayinka represented four different clubs in Europe, including Skënderbeu, Zulte Waregem, Slavia Praha and Crvena Zvezda.

He has not featured for the Super Eagles in over four years, with his last appearance coming in an Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Tunisia in January 2022.
