Bournemouth have been promoted to the English Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night.
Nigeria Football Federation target Philip Billing was instrumental to the win, setting up the winning goal scored by Kieffer Moore with seven minutes remaining.
The Denmark international took a clever free-kick and laid it off to Moore, who picked his spot and fired past Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba.
Heading into the final day of the season, the Cherries are guaranteed finishing in second position in the Championship standings as they are six points ahead of Nottingham Forest.
Billing has had an outstanding season, netting ten goals and setting up his teammates nine times in 39 league appearances.
The Danish-Nigerian midfielder was delighted Bournemouth are making a return to the Premier League after suffering playoff heartbreak in 2020-2021.
"It's not sunk in yet, it’s unbelievable," Billing told Sky Sports, according to the BBC.
“After last season it (play-offs])was something none of us wanted to do, we’ve worked hard all season, and it’s a great emotion because we put so much work in throughout the whole year.
“We’re a fit team and what we’ve shown with this young team is amazing".
Billing and another player of Nigerian descent Dominic Solanke were named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Season following their brilliant performances.
