Just like Bassey, ex-Atletico Madrid midfielder withdraws from Iran squad ahead of Nigeria friendly

Former Atlético Madrid defensive midfielder Saeid Ezatolahi has withdrawn from Iran's squad ahead of Friday's international friendly against Nigeria in Türkiye, after being ruled out due to a foot injury, adding to the team’s selection concerns.

Ezatolahi's withdrawal mirrors that of Fulham centre‑back Calvin Bassey, who has also pulled out of the Super Eagles squad because of injury.

The experienced midfielder did not accompany Team Melli to Antalya, where they are holding a training camp before friendly matches with Nigeria and Costa Rica.

According to the Iran Football Federation, the squad for the two friendlies is now complete following the arrivals of Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Mehdi Taremi, Ali Gholizadeh and Dennis Eckert.

These four players have already joined the group in training after arriving on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Mohebi has also started training with the squad, having been excused from Monday's session after reporting for international duty just hours before practice began.

The Super Eagles conducted their first training session in Antalya on Wednesday afternoon, with 22 players present, including Wilfred Ndidi, who was the last to arrive at the team's Bellis Deluxe Hotel.
