Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi spoke to journalists in the mixed zone after Nigeria's opening day win over Burundi in Group B of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The two players admitted that the Swallows made things difficult for the Super Eagles, who secured three points thanks to Odion Ighalo's late goal after coming off the bench.
Omeruo said : ''We knew it was a difficult game before the start of the game. They have nothing to lose, they played middle of the pitch and tried for counter attacks.
''I am glad that we could come out with the three points, it is always difficult to start.
''I have been here for a while, I know how it goes, I just want to take every game as it comes, make sure every game is better than the last one.''
Akpeyi added : ''The most important thing is the victory and that's what I want to talk about. I am just picking it up gradually, if I get another opportunity, fine.
''They are a tough nut to crack, you might look at it that they are coming for the first time in the Nations Cup but they have good players who curtailed our team. They did very well but we are lucky to come away with the three points.''
The Super Eagles were back on the training pitch at 1030 hours this morning ahead of their second fixture in Group B against Guinea on Wednesday, June 26.
