Manchester United academy product Mipo Odubeko sent West Ham's first-team manager David Moyes a reminder of his qualities by being involved in all the three goals as the Hammers beat Southampton B 3-1 in the Premier League 2 on Friday night.
Odubeko is the third different player with a Nigerian background that Moyes has handed debuts to this season, the others being Ajibola Alese and Dapo Afolayan.
The 18-year-old returned from injury to be named in the starting lineup along with Alese and Afolayan, while Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo, David Agbontohoma and Kazeem Olaigbe started for the Saints at the Rush Green Stadium.
Odubeko opened the scoring with a simple finish after he was set up by Afolayan in the 26th minute and the number 9 doubled the advantage from close range on 38 minutes with Afolayan involved in the build-up to the goal.
Olaigbe fired low past the West Ham goalkeeper to half the deficit in the 61st minute but the two-goal cushion was restored when Odubeko laid a pass to exciting midfielder Dan Chesters who slipped the ball under the goalkeeper twenty minutes from time.
Despite the win, West Ham remain bottom of the division with eight points from 12 games.
