Manchester United academy product Hamzat Balogun has reacted to signing a new deal at Championship club Watford.
Watford revealed last month that contract offers were made to several players within the academy ranks including Balogun.
The Nigerian youngster has put pen to paper on his first professional contract, a one-year deal until June 30, 2024 with an option for an additional season in Watford's favour.
Last season, Balogun helped Watford's development squad qualify for the finals of the Herts Senior Challenge Cup, and also starred as the U18s reached the fifth round of the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
The fullback is delighted to sign a new deal with Watford and one of his targets is to make his professional debut in the forthcoming season.
"It’s a proud moment for me and my family. It’s something I’ve hoped for ever since I was a kid. Now I’ve finally done it, it’s very relieving and I’m honoured to earn the opportunity," Balogun said to Watford's official website.
"It’s good because like myself, my teammates have all worked very hard to get to where they are, so it is good to do it together and take this big first step together.
"Now I want to get as much game time as possible and possibly some men’s football – get that taste and learn what it’s like to be in a winning environment."
Balogun was on the books of Manchester United for close to a decade before signing scholarship forms with Watford in August 2021.
