Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed strong confidence in Victor Osimhen ahead of Nigeria’s next outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, praising the striker’s mindset and form during a pre-match press conference held on Monday.
Speaking to the media, Chelle highlighted Osimhen’s importance to the team and his expectations for the forward at the tournament.
He said, “Once again, happy birthday to him, I wish lot of goals for my striker, my favorite striker. For me, the best striker in the world. So, I think that he feels good. He's focused. He's very focused and I hope this Afcon will be a great Afcon for him.”
Osimhen, who plays his club football with Galatasaray, recently opened his goal account at the ongoing competition.
The striker scored his first goal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations during Nigeria’s 3–2 victory over Tunisia, a result that proved decisive for the Super Eagles’ progress in the tournament.
That hard-earned win against the Carthage Eagles secured Nigeria’s place in the knockout stage of the competition.
The three-time African champions showed determination and attacking intent in the encounter, with Osimhen playing a key role as the team claimed maximum points.
With qualification already confirmed, the Super Eagles will now turn their attention to their final group phase fixture against Uganda.
The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, and Nigeria will be aiming to maintain their positive momentum and strong performances as the group stage draws to a close.
