Nigeria aim to cap-tie Blackburn's Alebiosu , named in final Afcon squad as Ola Aina dropped

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle has moved to secure the international future of Blackburn Rovers fullback Ryan Alebiosu by including him in Nigeria’s final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Alebiosu, who has been in impressive form for the Championship side, was initially named in Nigeria’s 54-man provisional squad but earned a spot in the final list following multiple injuries in the Super Eagles’ defence.

Nottingham Forest star Ola Aina is Nigeria's first-choice fullback, but the Chelsea academy graduate will miss the Africa Cup of Nations as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury sustained during a World Cup qualifier against South Africa in September.

If Ryan Alebiosu features even briefly for Nigeria in the 2025 Afcon, he will be officially cap-tied to the Super Eagles and ineligible to represent his country of birth, England.

The 23-year-old has registered one goal and two assists in nineteen league appearances this season.

Born in London, the Hale End Academy product is eligible to represent England but has committed his international future to Nigeria.

Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The Super Eagles open their Afcon campaign against Tanzania on December 23, before facing Tunisia on December 27 and wrapping up the group stage against Uganda on December 30.

Eric Chelle will be looking to guide Nigeria to their fourth Afcon title in Morocco, seeking redemption after the nation’s failure to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
