The Nigeria Football Federation are in a strong position to win the race for the services of Portsmouth’s dual-national goalkeeper, Comfort Erhabor, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Erhabor is eligible to represent the African champions, the Super Falcons, through her Nigerian parents, as well as her country of birth.
Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has named the 20-year-old in his squad for a pair of friendlies against neighbours Cameroon, and the major development is that the former West Ham youth team player has accepted the invitation.
However, she will not be cap-tied to the Super Falcons if she makes her senior debut against the Indomitable Lionesses as both fixtures are non-competitive.
Should Erhabor impress during the training camp, she could earn a spot in the squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where even a brief appearance in Morocco would permanently tie her international future to the Nigeria Football Federation.
The Nigeria Football Federation are set to win the recruitment battle for Erhabor after missing out on the services of Dutch-Nigerian forwards Emanuel Emegha and Arnaut Danjuma.
Emegha and Danjuma were both on the radar of Nigeria before making cap-tying appearances for the Netherlands against Poland and Germany respectively.
Erhabor previously received an invitation to the Flamingos for a pre-tournament training camp ahead of the 2022 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup, but was not included in the final squad.
The former Brighton & Hove, Plymouth Argyle and Hibernian goalkeeper has made two appearances in this season's Women's Super League 2.
