Super Eagles star Semi Ajayi has admitted that Hull City face a stern challenge when they take on Sheffield Wednesday, insisting that every match in the EFL Championship demands maximum concentration.
The Nigerian defender, who recently returned from an injury layoff, has quickly worked his way back into the starting lineup for the Tigers.
Ajayi has started two matches since his comeback, featuring against Millwall and his former side West Bromwich Albion.
Ajayi played the full 90 minutes in Hull City's 3–0 defeat to West Brom at the Hawthorns, marking another step in his return to full match fitness.
Speaking to Hull Live, the Nigerian International stressed that Hull City cannot afford to underestimate any opponent in the Championship, regardless of their position on the table.
"One hundred percent, there are no easy games in the Champ," Ajayi said. "We have to be on it. We can't drop our levels just because of where they are in the table, because if you do that in this, in this league, you'll get punished."
The 32-year-old noted that Sheffield Wednesday possess enough quality to make the encounter difficult and warned that Hull City must remain focused from start to finish.
"We have to be at the top of our game. We'll make sure we are. I'm expecting a tough game from them. We'll be on it, and we'll be ready, we'll be ready for what they have to bring," he noted.
Ajayi further emphasised the importance of maintaining consistency as the season progresses, particularly with crucial points still at stake in the highly competitive division.
He also highlighted the need for discipline and teamwork, noting that the Tigers must stay organised defensively while being clinical in attack
"We're just taking it one game at a time," he explained. "Our full focus is on Sheffield Wednesday and making sure we put things right and being at our maximum come Saturday."
Ajayi has been an important presence in Hull City's defence since joining the club on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion last summer.
As the Tigers prepare for the clash against Sheffield Wednesday, the Nigeria international will be hoping to help his side deliver a strong performance and return to winning ways.
