Celtic interim manager Martin O'Neill addressed the media on Wednesday ahead of his side's Europa League match with Dutch giants Feyenoord, with the fitness of Kelechi Iheanacho among the key talking points.
The Hoops were handed a timely boost prior to their trip to Rotterdam as the Nigeria international was spotted training with the group after spending just over a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Iheanacho has not featured for Celtic since the matchday three meeting with Sturm Graz in the Europa League, a spell that has seen him miss six consecutive matches in all competitions.
Given his lack of match sharpness following the layoff, the Super Eagles striker is unlikely to be considered for a starting berth against Feyenoord.
O'Neill highlighted that Iheanacho's presence in training does not guarantee minutes on Thursday, insisting that his involvement will depend entirely on the striker's fitness before kickoff.
Providing an update on the condition of his squad and addressing whether Iheanacho had made the trip, O'Neill told reporters: "Yes, they travelled. We'll see. It's the amount of work that they haven't really done that will be something I consider during the course of the next 24 hours".
Asked whether Iheanacho brings something to the team that has been missing in recent games, O'Neill said: “I think the short answer would be yes. You’re looking for fit people. We’ll see.”
Iheanacho joined the Scottish champions in September and has since made eight appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
