Opposition watch: Tunisia name Burnley, Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday stars in Afcon squad

Tunisia has officially announced its final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The announcement was made by head coach Sami Trabelsi during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Tunisian Football Federation.

The final 28-man squad includes three United Kingdom–based players, namely Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, Sheffield Wednesday defender Yan Valery and Celtic forward Sebastian Tounekti.

The Eagles of Carthage are preparing to compete in Group C of the tournament, alongside Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to face Tunisia in their second group-phase match on December 27, 2025.

The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Tunisia’s squad features a mix of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and attackers carefully selected to compete in the continental tournament.

The team includes established players as well as emerging talents from both domestic and international leagues.
