Promising Nigerian Midfielder Scores First Goal For Chelsea Eight Years After Joining Academy

Promising Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe was on target as the U18 team of Chelsea lost 3-2 to their Southampton counterparts in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Staplewood Training Ground.<br /><br />The hosts went in front in the 14th minute, thanks to Mdlasose&rsquo;s striker, but Uwakwe equalized 13 minutes later after he had come close to opening scoring earlier.<br /><br />&nbsp;McEachran&rsquo;s low drive into the top corner put Chelsea 2-1 up on 54 minutes, before a brace from Johson sealed the win for the Saints. <br /><br />The 16-year-old Uwakwe started last weekend as Chelsea beat Fulham 3-2 on the opening day and subbed out in the 66th minute.<br /><br />His strike against Southampton was his first goal for the youth team of Chelsea since he joined the club eight years ago.<br /><br />Ifeanyi Emmanuel<br /><br />Photo Credit : chelseafc.com<br /><br /><br />
