Why English-Born Talents Prefer To Represent England Ahead Of Nigeria
Published: July 04, 2016
An English-born footballer of Nigerian descent has explained that several players with dual citizenship who are eligible to represent Nigeria prefer to turn out for England at international level because they are well treated by the FA.
The likes of Dominic Solanke (Chelsea), Chuba Akpom (Arsenal), Dominic Iorfa (Wolves) and Ola Aina (Chelsea) are known to have snubbed approaches from the Nigeria Football Federation in the past.
And it is believed that they are hoping to make their competitive debut for the Three Lions and Nigeria would only be second choice if they are running out of time to realize their dreams.
“We all want to play for England not Nigeria, from young England looks after you better, ” the London-based player told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“England looks after you in every way, for example they pay for your flight tickets for training camps unlike what is done by Nigeria.
“There are more international tournaments and more recognition. The competition is very high, they work hard and see where they get and if they can’t play for the senior team, they consider Nigeria. ”
Nigeria U23s coach Samson Siasia has announced a 35-man provisional roster for the Olympic Games and no player born in England made the squad list.
