Super Eagles forward in contention to make return from injury in Blackburn v Watford duel

Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis is in line to make his long-awaited return from injury when Blackburn Rovers host Watford at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

Dennis, who joined Blackburn during the winter transfer window, has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in a 2-1 loss to Cardiff City in March.

The setback forced the Nigerian international to miss six Championship fixtures against Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Luton Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, and Sunderland.

After over a month on the sidelines, Dennis returned to full training this week and is now in contention for selection against the Hornets.

His return is a major boost for manager Valérien Ismaël as Rovers continue their push for a Championship playoff spot.

Speaking to Rovers TV ahead of the clash, Ismaël confirmed the Nigerian international's return and expressed excitement about the options now available to him with just two games remaining in the season.

"We are looking good this weekend and we will have the same squad that we've had in previous weeks," the Frenchman said.

"Nobody is injured from the two games we've had and we managed the players really well.

"On top of that, we have Dennis back in training, AK [Kargbo] trained with the team as well, so we'll see if that's enough to be picked in the squad.

"We have a lot of options now coming back with a different kind of profile."

Dennis has endured a challenging spell since joining Blackburn, making only five appearances and recording a single assist.

However, his return presents a fresh opportunity to regain form and make a strong finish to the season.

With Nigeria preparing for the Unity Cup and the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Dennis will be eager to impress and put himself back in contention for a Super Eagles call-up.
