Nigeria Yet To Beat England For Services Of Oduwa As Winger Reports At Tottenham For Pre-Season
Published: July 06, 2016
Nathan Oduwa has put the disappointment of missing out on Nigeria’s provisional roster for the Olympic Games behind him, and has reported for pre-season training at Tottenham Hotspur.
For the past five days, the winger has been at Hotspur Way taking part in gym work and training on the pitch ahead of the Development squad’s first competitive fixture of the new season.
The 20-year-old Oduwa racked up 13 caps for England at youth level, all of them coming in friendly fixtures, before he pledged his international future to Nigeria, making his debut against Brazil in March.
The irony is that the Nigeria Football Federation has not beaten the English FA in the race to secure the international future of the talented winger, bearing in mind that his four caps for Nigeria U23s were in non-competitive games.
And the FA could take advantage of that loophole and approach him to represent England again, using Alex Iwobi’s previous situation as a case study.
Tottenham Hotspur U21s are managed by former England international of Nigerian descent Ugo Ehiogu.
