Iwobi Senior Confident Arsenal, Man City Starlets Alex, Iheanacho Will Return Nigeria To Glory Days
Published: July 09, 2016
Alex Iwobi’s father, Chuka Iwobi, has predicted that Nigeria will return to the glory days they enjoyed about two decades ago as the country is blessed with football talents and cited the performances of his son at Arsenal and City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
Chuka Iwobi has been advocating for English-born players eligible to represent Nigeria to chose the Super Eagles rather than the Three Lions and admitted that his son’s development at Arsenal was fast-tracked after he started playing for Nigeria.
“Nigeria has administration problems, we expect that, but when we look beyond the initial problems you’ll see Nigeria is a country blessed with talents, ” Chuka Iwobi said.
“Nigerian football at a stage was going through a bad patch, but my hope is Alex, Iheanacho and a lot pf players who are playing in the UK.
“If we are able to blend with the homegrown boys, we are going to go back to the days of Okocha, Christian Chukwu and Kanu Nwanwko, we will go back to the golden era. ”
Both Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been named to Nigeria’s 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Olympic Games but their participation in Rio is doubtful as they have started pre-season with their Premier League clubs.
