Exclusive: Orji Okonkwo Confirmed To Be Joining Spezia NOT Spurs, As NFF Sends ITC To Federcalcio
Published: July 12, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report that Nigeria U20 international Orji Okonkwo is set to resume his career at Serie B club Spezia, with the Nigeria Football Federation sending his International Transfer Certificate to the Federcalcio.
Before the attacker agreed terms with the Little Eagles, former Nigeria international Danny Shittu had approached Football College Abuja, claiming that he had offers from West Ham and Chelsea which never materialized.
Reports that surfaced in the local media that Okonkwo is Tottenham Hotspur-bound are of the mark as he has been training at Spezia for close to two years now, and the Italians only wrapped up a deal for the player when he attained the age of majority and was issued a work permit.
Reacting to recent reports that he does not represent Okonkwo, agent Adeleke said : “Spezia have been giving allowances to Orji Okonkwo for more than 18 months now. I had to beg the technical head of Football College Abuja before he was allowed to join the Golden Eaglets.
“Danny Shittu is not Okonkwo’s agent. Football College has agents all over Europe that represent their players and he is not one of them.
“If I am not his agent? Then these questions should be answered. Who took him to the Italian embassy to get his work permit? How did he get to Abuja to join Football College? How did he get to Italy? Who was he calling in Nigeria that he wants to play for Nigeria U17s?”
Football College Abuja waved aside suggestions that Orji Okonkwo is heading to the Premier League and insisted that their player will join his new employer after the second leg of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan.
