CD Feirense attacking midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo etched his name into Nigerian football folklore after scoring a haul in the Dream Team’s impressive 5-4 win over Asian champions Japan at the Olympic Games on Friday morning.

The former Warri Wolves star broke two Nigerian records after scoring in the 10th, 42nd, 52nd and 66th minutes of the encounter at the Arena da Amazônia, Manaus.

Etebo is the first Nigerian player to score more than two goals in a game at the Olympics, and has become the top goalscorer for Nigeria in the history of the Olympic Games, surpassing the record ex-Arsenal striker Kanu jointly held with Victor Agali and Victor Obinna.

Nwankwo Kanu netted three goals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, Agali equaled that record four years later in Sydney, while former West Ham star Obinna registered his name on the score sheet three times in Beijing.

Etebo was the top goalscorer at the 2015 Africa U23 Cup of Nations with five goals to his name.
