Mikel Singled Out For Special Praise By Atlanta 1996 Hero Kanu
Retired Nigeria international Kanu Nwankwo has urged the Dream Team to go for gold at the Olympic Games.

The former Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam hero led the Nigeria U23s to a famous victory over Brazil in the semifinals of Atlanta 1996, scoring a brace in a 4-3 come-from-behind win.

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel was singled out for special praise by Kanu, while coach Samson Siasia was applauded for taking to the team to the semifinals in the face of adversity.

“Congratulations our dear dream team U23. Well done Mikel and the boys and the coach, we are proud of you all, keep going,” said Kanu on Twitter.

The Atlanta 1996 squad, coached by Dutchman Jo Bonfrére, also featured Austin Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke, Daniel Amokachi and Victor Ikpeba amongst others.
