Siasia Admits Nigeria U23s Are Under Pressure To Win Bronze
Published: August 20, 2016
With the Women’s 4x100m relay team failing to finish in the medal positions on Saturday morning, the Dream Team VI are under pressure to win today’s bronze medal clash against Honduras at the Olympic Games or the country will leave Brazil with nothing.
Coach Samson Siasia admitted as much at Friday’s press conference that his team have no choice but to win the bronze medal, noting that they were not at their best in the semifinal against Germany.
“The pressure is normal for us. The match tomorrow will already be a natural pressure. But we want to go out with this medal . In the last game we did not play so well,” Siasia told reporters.
“We have to play for bronze as if we were playing for gold. It will be disappointing if we do not win anything. We have to come back home with this medal.”
The former Nantes striker is aware that several Brazilian fans have supported the Nigeria U23s throughout their stay in the country and is rooting for Brazil to beat Germany in the showpiece game.
“Good luck, Brazil ! I hope you win the gold medal, ” concluded Samson Siasia.
