Nigeria Behind Germany In Race To Cap Talented Fortuna Dusseldorf Striker Iyoha
Published: September 04, 2016
The Nigeria Football Federation are lagging behind Germany in the race to secure the international future of Fortuna Düsseldorf whizkid Emmanuel Iyoha, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Born in Düsseldorf 18 years ago, Iyoha has a German mom and a Nigerian dad, meaning he is eligible to represent the Africans if the grandfather rule is invoked.
The attacker was involved in four international friendlies for Germany U19, having made his debut against Sweden on November 13, 2015, before making his competitive debut in the 2016 European U19 Championship in the fifth place match with Holland.
The Nigeria Football Federation would not have needed Fifa’s approval before inviting Iyoha to one of the national teams until July 21, 2016, after he was handed a late call up by manager Guido Streichsbier as replacement for the injured Fabian Resse.
Ahead of the Fifa U20 World Cup in South Korea next summer, Iyoha has been promoted to Germany U20 squad and was recently called up for a pair of friendlies against Italy and Poland.
The likes of Sidney Sam, Patrick Owomoyela and Dennis Aogo were qualified to represent Nigeria before they played for the senior national team of Germany and Iyoha may follow suit.
