Dutch-Born Troost-Ekong Reminds Everyone About His Akwa Ibom Roots
FK Haugesund skipper William Troost-Ekong was delighted that the Super Eagles ended their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a high by beating Tanzania 1-0 on Saturday.

Troost-Ekong, who turned 23 on Thursday, was born in Haarlem, Netherlands but can claim to be a native of Akwa Ibom State, where the game was played, as his father is a son of the soil.

“1-0 win against Tanzania. Couldn’t wish more for my birthday. In my home state Akwa Ibom! Proud of my Etinan rootsð��³ð��¬, ’’ Troost-Ekong posted on social media on Sunday morning.

The central defender played for Holland’s U19 and U20 national teams in non-competitive fixtures before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2014.

Troost-Ekong started every single game at the 2016 Olympic Games, going the distance in six matches.
