International Call Ups : Spurs Ace Dele Set To Face Off With Malta Star Effiong At Wembley
Published: October 03, 2016
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Dele Alli, has been named in the England squad by interim manager Gareth Southgate for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
The 20-year-old was the only player of Nigerian descent included in the roster, with Everton ace Ross Barkley missing out for the second consecutive international break.
Eleven players of Nigerian descent, including Ovie Ejaria and Tammy Abraham, earlier received call-ups to the England youth teams.
Balzan striker Alfred Effiong would be relishing the prospect of playing at the hallowed Wembley Stadium along with Alli, having made Malta’s provisional roster.
Hibernians striker Joseph Mbong, whose late dad represented Julius Berger, is in Malta U21 squad for games against Latvia and Moldova.
Queens Park Rangers rising star Olamide Shodipo has kept his place in the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their forthcoming Under-21 Championship Qualifying Round Group 2 game with Serbia.
West Brom new signing Hal Robson-Kanu, one of the stars of Euro 2016, is in Wales squad for World Cup qualifying fixtures with Austria and Georgia.
Austria’s Head Coach, Marcel Koller, has included the influential Bayern Munich wing-back David Alaba in his roster for the trip to Wales.
