Peter Odemwingie Wants To Represent Nigeria At 2018 World Cup In Russia
Published: October 10, 2016
Free agent Peter Odemwingie has reiterated that he wants to represent Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.
The out-of-favour Super Eagles striker has been on the lookout for a new employer after his release by Stoke City at the end of last season, and trialed at Hull City in July.
Odemwingie’s father-in-law had informed him that the Tigers were in the market for a frontman but nothing came out of the trials following the departure of manager Steve Bruce.
“Peter’s dream is to play at a high enough level to be able to represent Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the country where he grew up, when his eldest son will be old enough to remember him in action.
“It was another family member who almost helped to engineer what would have been a perfect move to meet those ambitions,” Sky Sports wrote ahead of Sunday’s documentary, “Out of Contract”.
The former Lokomotiv Moscow star was eligible to represent Russia before he committed his international future to Nigeria, and represented the nation at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
