Porto CB Awaziem Will Not Make UCL Debut, Ndidi Set To Join Iheanacho In History Books
Published: February 22, 2017
Former Super Eagles invitee Chidozie Awaziem will not make his Champions League debut on Wednesday night when Porto welcome Juventus to the Estádio do Dragão in a Round of 16 , 1st leg tie.
The central defender was not originally included on the list of players submitted to UEFA by the Portuguese setup, but became eligible for the competition via the B list since he has played nonstop at Porto for the past two years and is less than 21 years old.
Per UEFA regulations, Porto have submitted an updated list twenty four hours before the contest with the Italian powerhouse, and the Nigerian has been omitted.
On the other hand, it is all but confirmed that ex-Racing Genk midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will debut in the most prestigious club competition in the world as he has traveled with the Leicester City squad to Andalusia.
Ndidi will become only the second player in the Golden Eaglets class of 2013 to make an appearance in the Champions League, following in the footsteps of Man City striker Iheanacho, if he steps out onto the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán turf.
