Nigerian Whizkid Dele-Bashiru Comes Close To Scoring As Man City Beat Aston Villa In FAYC
Published: February 23, 2017
Manchester City are through to the semifinals of the FA Youth Cup following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday.
City manager Lee Carsley named Tom Dele-Bashiru in his starting line-up, while goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem was on the bench for the home team.
Abdoul opened the scoring for Aston Villa after eight minutes, only for Sancho to equalize for the Citizens three minutes later.
With five minutes remaining, Dele-Bashiru would have grabbed the winner for City, but was unlucky not to bury his chance, before Smith netted in the 87th minute.
Including his strike against Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, the midfielder has found the net three times in all competitions so far this season.
