OGN Lied : Eagles Defender Leon Balogun Received First Red Of His Career Five Years Ago
Published: February 27, 2017
Suggestions that Nigeria international Leon Balogun was sent off for the first time in his career in Mainz 05 II’s 3-1 win over Preußen Münster this past Saturday are incorrect.
Also, claims that the German-born central defender has played over 1,500 games at club and international level are wide of the mark as he has been involved in less than 230 matches cumulatively for his German clubs and the Super Eagles.
Balogun first took the walk of shame while defending the colours of Fortuna Düsseldorf in a Regionalliga West tie against SC Rot-Weiß Oberhausen on October 6, 2012.
The 28-year-old has a good disciplinary record for a central defender, with only 43 yellow cards and 2 red cards handed out to him since he started his career.
He has started nine games in the German top-flight this term.
