Published: March 26, 2017
Speaking after the international friendly between Nigeria and Senegal at the Hive Stadium, coach of the Teranga Lions Aliou Cissé was impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles players despite the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
The former Birmingham City defender revealed that Senegal accepted to play the friendly against Nigeria because they are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers and have to play against big teams.
“Nigeria is a good team. Nigeria is a football country, with many very good players. That has always been the case, with Jay-Jay Okocha, and so on, ” Cisse said.
“We respect this team. They did not qualify for the last African Cup of Nations but it is a good team that has a future.
“Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Algeria, are the future of African football.”
Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow opened the scoring for Senegal before Kelechi Iheanacho equalised for the Super Eagles with seven minutes remaining.
