Major League Soccer DisCo Fines Nigeria International For Dangerous Play
Published: March 29, 2017The MLS Disciplinary Committee has fined Real Salt Lake midfielder Sunday Stephen for his action during the game week four tie against New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena.
The Nigeria international violated league policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent in the 56th minute of RSL’s game against the New York Red Bulls on March 25.
Stephen was not cautioned for the offense during the game but was yellow carded in the 68th minute.
Last season, he was suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for a rash challenge on Portland Timbers striker Fanendo Adi.
A former Spain U20 international, Sunday Stephen has represented clubs in Spain, Bulgaria, Israel and Turkey.
