Cameroon Coach Threatens To Quit Over N122.9M Unpaid Salaries Ahead Of WCQ Against Nigeria
Published: March 29, 2017
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday after Cameroon lost 2-1 to Guinea in an international friendly, coach of Cameroon Hugo Broos has threatened to resign ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria
It is claimed that the Belgian manager is being owed seven months wages totaling 315,000 euros (equivalent of N122.9 million), and Broos has cited these poor working conditions and lack of funding as the reason he wants to quit.
“ I worked for a year to get to that level. The players followed me throughout the course and I think they were able to reverse the situation. I’m wondering. I wonder if I should continue with Cameroon? ” Broos said.
“Because if you work the same way as the others have done and each time the same mistakes happen again, then I tell myself that it is not possible to continue with Cameroon.
“I will reflect on my future. Because if players who prepare for a game and do not have their meal at noon, while people sit for ten days in their chairs and do not give a damn, that can not be accepted.”
Cameroon have drawn their first two games in the World Cup qualifiers - against Algeria and Zambia - and will trail Nigeria by seven points if they lose to the Super Eagles in the next round.
