Man City Starlet Iheanacho Admits : Nigerians Are Worried About My Lack Of Game Time
Published: April 23, 2017
Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has vowed to fight for a first team shirt after falling down the pecking order at the Etihad outift following the arrival of Brazil young sensation Gabriel Jesus.
The Taye Academy product has confessed that Nigerians are worried about his lack of football at City and hopes to continue improving, knowing he's competing against two very good South American attackers in the shape of Sergio Aguero and Jesus.
''I cannot pretend that I don't hear what people back home [in Nigeria] say about my lack of regular football but I will continue to fight," Iheanacho told BBC Sport.
"I don't worry about those comments. All I need to do is to keep working, keep doing well and keep improving every day.
"Sergio Aguero and Gabriel [Jesus] are really really great players that we need in our team.
The Citizens number 72 added : "As a young player, I'm happy playing alongside these fantastic players because I learn and get better every day.
"It's a big thing for my career to compete with these players. I'm okay with the way things are going and I wish Gabriel a quick recovery to return and help the team."
Manchester City face Arsenal in the semifinal of the FA Cup on Sunday at Wembley, and Iheanacho will be hoping to play his third straight game for his club in the competition, having come off the bench against Huddersfield and Middlesbrough.
