Nigerian TOTW: Iwobi Beats Ola Aina To Player Of The Week; Victor Moses Returns; Eduok & Ilori Impress
Published: October 01, 2018Allnigeriasoccer.com reveals the most outstanding Nigerian
players in each position in the last one week and the Player of the Week award goes to Arsenal's Alex Iwobi.
Goalkeeper
Robin Udegbe (RW Oberhausen) : In a week that saw Nigeria goalkeepers Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa inactive for one reason or another, the former VVV Venlo shot-stopper gets the nod in goal after conceding once in his side's 1-1 draw with SV Rödinghausen .
Defenders
Brian Idowu (Lokomotiv Moscow) : The Super Eagle has forced his way into the Lokomotiv starting lineup and put in an impressive performance in his side's 2-0 win against Akhmat Grozny, playing in his now favoured left back position.
Semi Ajayi (Rotherham United) : Was an easy decision to make after picking up the man of the match accolade in Rotherham's 2-2 draw with Stoke City. Made a game-high eight clearances and won 8 out of 11 duels.
Tiago Ilori (Reading) : The former Liverpool starlet made the grade after starring against Brentford. Of the 23 clearances made by the entire Reading team, Ilori racked up a game-high eight.
Midfielders
Moses Odubajo (Brentford) : Started for the Brentford side that outplayed Arsenal for most part of the second half in a League Cup clash on Wednesday. He didn't look rusty in his first game for more than two years.
Philip Billing (Huddersfield Town) : Despite the Terriers going down 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur, Billing dominated world class midfielders in the Premier League contest.
Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) : Was Nigeria's most talked about player this past week and there is nothing more to add.
Ola Aina (Chelsea on loan to Torino) : Narrowly missed out on the Player of the Week award to Iwobi. Torino have not conceded in two straight matches in the Italian top division, with Aina lasting the distance in both games. The left wing-back was unlucky not to score against Chievo on Sunday.
Strikers
Victor Moses ( Chelsea) : The former Nigeria star was the most fouled player and top dribbler in Chelsea's 2-1 win over Liverpool in the League Cup, a performance that saw him get more minutes when both teams met again in the Premier League.
Isaac Success (Watford) : Had a wonderful performance against quality opponents, Tottenham, in the League Cup playing as a lone striker against tested defenders. Was also lively when he came on against Arsenal on Saturday.
Emem Eduok (Kasimpasa) : Though Eduok was on the losing side against Eddy Onazi's Trabzonspor, his efforts have been noticed. He had five shots on the Trabzonspor goal, scoring one. Had a game-high three shots on target and had another match-leading statistic after completing four dribbles.
