Omeruo names the two Golden Eaglets players who impressed him the most at U17 AFCON
Published: May 12, 2023
It shouldn't come as a surprise that CD Leganes central defender Kenneth Omeruo has a soft spot for the Golden Eaglets.
The former Chelsea star was an influential member of the Golden Eaglets squad that won the silver medal at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria, where he went the distance in all the seven matches contested by the national team.
Omeruo kept an eye on the performance of the Golden Eaglets at the ongoing Africa U17 Cup of Nations and singled out two players for praise.
Nigeria will not be competing at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Thursday night.
Omeruo has urged stakeholders not to abandon the team and highlighted that Jeremiah Olaleke and Hope Linus stood out for the Golden Eaglets.
Writing on Instagram on Friday, Omeruo remarked : "It was sad not to see this boys progress to the next stage and also to the World Cup.. so many bright talents in this team..
"I just hope they are not abandoned.. and I know for sure a lot of them will play to their highest potentials… and I hope they are encouraged in defeat as well..
"What players did you think stood out for u? Comment if u watched all games… for me, number 12 (Hope Linus), number 6 (Jeremiah Olaleke)".
The Golden Eaglets had been gunning for a record extending third African title and a thirteenth appearance at the World Cup before their elimination.
