Video: Watch Omorodion score fastest goal conceded by Barcelona in a home league match in 21st century
Published: November 13, 2023
Just like the speed of light, Spanish-Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion scored the quickest goal against Barcelona in a home fixture in La Liga in the 21st century by putting Deportivo Alavés ahead in their 2-1 loss to the Blaugranes on Sunday.
The Atlético Madrid loanee scored within 18 seconds after the centre referee, Mateo Busquets Ferrer blew the whistle for the start of the game.
Jon Guridi dispossessed Ilkay Gundogan inside Alaves' half, switched the ball to the path of Javi López, who squared the ball for Omorodion to put the ball in the back of the net and the young striker made no mistake in finding the target.
The 19-year-old would move from being a hero to a villain as he missed two big chances to extend Alavés' lead but his profligacy got the better of him.
His missed eventually proved costly for the away side as Robert Lewandowski bagged a second-half brace to nick the maximum points for Barcelona from the jaws of what would have been an embarrassing loss
Omorodion has now scored against two of the biggest sides in the Spanish top flight having scored against his parent club Atlético Madrid, in the first matchday of the season.
Omorodion's goal is also the fastest scored by Deportivo Alavés in La Liga history.
