Bryan Fiabema, the striker open to playing for Super Eagles: How has he performed since Chelsea exit?
Published: March 10, 2024
Nigerian football fans were excited a few years ago by the rise of Bryan Fiabema, a powerful young striker who previously starred for Chelsea youth teams.
Fiabema, eligible to represent both Norway and Nigeria, had previously expressed his openness to playing for the Super Eagles through his father.
However, after leaving Chelsea in 2023, questions linger about his development and whether he can still fulfill that early promise.
Fiabema's journey began in Norway with Tromsø, where he made his senior debut at just 16 years old.
This impressive feat caught the eye of Chelsea scouts, who brought him to London in January 2020.
There, he quickly progressed through the academy ranks, showcasing his pace, strength and finishing ability in front of goal.
Despite his promise, Fiabema never quite managed to break into the Chelsea first team.
Loan spells at Rosenborg in Norway and Forest Green Rovers in England offered a taste of senior football, but he struggled for consistent playing time and goals.
After his contract expired in June 2023, Fiabema left Chelsea to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
His next move took him to Spain, where he currently plays for Real Sociedad B in the Primera Federación, the third tier of Spanish football.
While a step down from his Chelsea academy days, this move could prove crucial for Fiabema. Here, he'll have the chance for regular playing time to showcase his skills and rebuild his confidence.
So far at Real Sociedad B, he has registered four goals and an assist in twenty league appearances this season., and has been called up for two matches in La Liga but was a non-playing substitute.
However, with the ambition to represent Nigeria on the international stage, he'll need to find his goalscoring touch again.
The Super Eagles are blessed with attacking talent, and Fiabema will face stiff competition for a place in the squad.
Only time will tell if Fiabema can recapture his early potential. While his Chelsea exit might seem like a setback, his move to Spain offers a platform to get his career back on track.
Fans will undoubtedly be following his progress closely, hoping to see him develop into the striker he was once projected to be.
