Atletico Madrid's midfielder search: Tottenham and Feyenoord stars targeted, Ndidi snubbed
Published: May 27, 2024According to reliable Spanish sports daily, AS, Atletico Madrid have passed up the opportunity to sign Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
The Nigeria international was offered to Atletico Madrid but the La Liga side turned down the opportunity as they have other targets on their radar.
Diego Simeone's side prefer a move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg who appears not to be in the plans for Ange Postecoglou and have set their sights also on Feyenoord's Mats Wieffer.
Ndidi's contract with Leicester City ends next month and a transfer to the Wanda Metropolitano would have been a big move for him, as he would have the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
The former Genk midfielder isn't short of suitors with Barcelona, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Wolverhamton Wanderers all mentioned as possible destinations.
His quality and experience particularly in the Premier League has drawn suitors to him but it remains to be seen where his next destination is at the moment.
He enjoyed a fruitful campaign with the Foxes, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League and showed another dimension of his game, having been given the freedom in midfield by Enzo Maresca.
Ndidi made 36 appearances for the one-time Premier League champions across all competitions in the just concluded season, scoring six goals and bagging six assists.
