Paris Saint-Germain abandon pursuit of Super Eagles forwards Lookman and Osimhen
Published: August 20, 2024French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly abandoned their pursuit of Super Eagles forwards Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.
The Parisians had been considering a move for Lookman in the summer window, even before Gonçalo Ramos suffered an injury against Le Havre last Friday.
Paris Saint-Germain had the Atalanta Player of the Season on their radar following his impressive performances last term, especially in the Europa League final, where he scored a historic hat-trick in a 3-0 win versus Bayer Leverkusen.
As for Osimhen, PSG considered signing him as a replacement for marquee forward Kylian Mbappe who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, but the capital club are no longer interested in the reigning African Footballer of the Year, with his hefty 130 million euros release clause being the stumbling block to a move.
According to celebrated French sports daily L'Equipe, via Italian transfer market portal Tuttomercatoweb, PSG will not buy a replacement for Goncalo Ramos, who underwent successful surgery on his left ankle today at the ASPETAR clinic in Doha.
The report added that PSG coach Luis Enrique will replace Ramos internally, meaning neither Osimhen nor Lookman are targets of the Parisians.
The two Nigerians are angling for a move away from the Serie A but no satisfactory offers have come in, ten days before the end of the transfer window.
Osimhen and Lookman are under contract with their respective clubs until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
