'A different player' - Owen Hargreaves praises Fulham star Iwobi for improved form after tough spell at Everton
Published: August 24, 2024Fulham are up and running in the English Premier League, beating Wilfred Ndidi's Leicester City 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday to register their first win of the 2024-2025 season.
Alex Iwobi scored what proved to be the game-winning goal when he outpaced Harry Winks and unleashed a low shot that sneaked past Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen after a ball over the top from Antonee Robinson in the 70th minute.
With Everton needing to balance their books, the Nigeria international was sold to Fulham for a fee of 22 million pounds last summer.
The playmaker's impressive performances since landing at Craven Cottage has shown that Fulham have done fantastic business adding him to their ranks.
Iwobi has been enjoying a new lease of life under manager Marco Silva at Fulham, registering nine goal involvements (7 goals, 2 assists) in 35 appearances combined in league and cup.
The Hale End Academy graduate came under scrutiny for the most of his stay at Goodison Park, with some fans questioning his consistency.
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been left impressed by Iwobi's improved form since his move to Fulham and suggested that he struggled at Everton.
Speaking on Premier League Productions after the Fulham versus Leicester City game, Hargreaves said: "I think Leicester are going to struggle a little bit in terms of their firepower. Iwobi, he's such a different player at Fulham compared to the one at Everton, they were struggling.
"In this side, they are trying to play him, Emile Smith Rowe and Pereira, those are nice players. "
Fulham find themselves tenth in the provisional standings ahead of their next Premier League match against new boys Ipswich Town on Saturday, August 31.
