Ekemini Ime: Danish Superliga club sign 18-year-old midfielder on five-year deal
Published: October 02, 2024With a statement on their official website, Danish Superliga club Aarhus Gymnastikforening have announced the signing of promising Nigerian midfielder Ekemini Ime.
Ime has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with AGF and will initially start his career in Europe with the club's U19 team.
Although the transfer was announced on Wednesday, he has already made his debut for AGF youth team, coming off the bench in the fifteenth minute of a 1-0 loss to FC Midtjylland last weekend.
He was yellow carded shortly after replacing the injured Oskar Haugstrup on his debut for the U19 squad.
Ekemini Ime is set to be among the first young talents to join AGF’s new academy at Fredensvang, which is scheduled to open in October.
AGF sports director, Stig Inge describes Ume as a young talent with a solid physical profile that fits the club's style of play and his role as a defensive midfielder, adding that he has tremendous potential that can develop over time within the system, guided by the coaches and staff.
He continued: “He is a tenacious and hard-working player who now needs to develop even more - both physically and in terms of playing - and it will be exciting to follow him in the coming years".
Ime will be hoping to emulate former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles midfielder Edafe Egbedi who rose through the youth ranks to make his senior debut for AGF.
Ahead of their trip to Silkeborg on Saturday, AGF are seventh in the U19 Ligaen.
